Wrong Step Leads to City Power Outage

By Sentinel Staff
Most of Sitka lost power for about a half-hour Thursday night, after a systems operator changing a fluorescent light bulb inadvertently brushed his foot against the sudden pressure relay, tripping the system, the electric department said.
The power went out at 8:34 p.m. in all but the 700 to 1800 block of Halibut Point Road and neighborhoods above that section of highway, said Utility Director Chris Brewton. Electricity was restored to all parts of town by 9:18 p.m.
Brewton said there was no damage to the system and no injuries.
He said the operator had been working behind the control panel in the Blue Lake powerhouse and was stepping off a ladder when the accident occurred.
