Planned Power

Outage Thursday

The Sitka Electric Department has planned a power outage from 12:01 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19.

The department said it will test the 35-year-old “spare” Marine Street transformer in order to minimize utility rate costs and to improve future reliability.

‘‘We are requesting that all of our customers conserve power on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 12:01 a.m. to 3 a.m.

Customers north of Jarvis Street, including all of Halibut Point Road and all of downtown will be affected, the department said.

 

Annual Sales at

St. Peter’s Church

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will host a combined annual Fair Trade and Christmas Fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, in the See House behind the church at 611 Lincoln Street.

The Fair Trade merchandise is from SERRV – an organization that strives to alleviate poverty by providing a market for artisans in developing countries. Purchase of these  gifts will help people in small villages around the world and a number of charitable organizations in Sitka and Alaska.

Christmas items include baked goods – including gluten free – and gift items. Complimentary coffee and cookies will be offered. For more information, contact the church office at 747-3977.

 

Library Closure

Kettleson Memorial Library, Sitka’s Public Library, will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 26, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

On Friday, Nov. 27, the library will be open for reduced hours from 1 to 6 p.m.
