Winter Concerts
Staged for KGH
The public is invited to Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary School winter concerts at the Performing Arts Center.
The dates are: third grade, Tuesday, Dec. 8; fourth grade, Thursday, Dec. 10; second grade, Monday, Dec. 14; and fifth grade, Tuesday, Dec. 15.
All concerts are at 7 p.m. Admission is free of charge. Contact the KGH office at 747-8395 with any questions.
Quilters Meet
Ocean Wave Quilt Guild will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Grace Harbor Church across from Sea Mart.

Landlubbers
Parade Dec. 20
The annual Landlubbers Christmas Parade will be 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20.
The parade will start on Lincoln Street at City Hall. It will travel down Lincoln Street to Kettleson Library, at its Stratton Library location on the SJ Campus, where Santa will be delivered.
Santa’s Helpers will be at the library to hand out holiday treats and have photos with Santa.
Lineup will be at the ANB parking lot at 3 p.m. Groups and individuals are welcome to participate in the parade to help bring in the holiday season, organizers said.

Sea Otters Topic
Of Story Time
Parents and tots will join park rangers for a story about sea otters during December’s preschool story time at Sitka National Historical Park 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, in the visitor center.
Attendees will hear a story, sing songs, have a snack, create a sea otter craft and distribute a take-home activity. Participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the program.

Meets Dec. 2
A meeting of City and Borough of Sitka’s Library Commission is scheduled 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, on the second floor of the Kettleson Memorial Library’s temporary location at 831 Lincoln Street.
Probable agenda items include timelines for the library expansion project/move and upcoming/recent library programming. The public is invited to attend. Toys for Tots
Campaign Starts
The local Marine Corps League, Robert B. Johnstone Detachment, is working with the Salvation Army to collect toys for families in need.
New, unwrapped toys can be left in decorated boxes placed at several locations including Sea Mart, AC Lakeside Grocery, Market Center, True Value, Ben Franklin, White’s Pharmacy, Harry Race Pharmacy, SEARHC Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital, The Cellar, Sitka High School, Mt. Edgecumbe High School, Blatchley Middle School, Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary School and Baranof Elementary School.
The official box pickup date is Dec. 12.

Living with Grief
Group to Meet
Living with Grief Through the Holidays, a peer support group for families and friends who have lost a loved one, will be offered 7-8:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at Brave Heart Volunteers, in the Pioneers Home Manager’s House.
Erin Matthes, BHV therapeutic program director, will facilitate the group.
Participants can expect an evening of peer support, new holiday traditions, and light refreshments.

‘Radical Re-Users’
4-H Alaska Way of Life will begin the “Radical Re-users” six-week series to learn how to turn trash into treasure 3:30-5 p.m. Wednesdays (mixed age) and 2-4 p.m. Fridays 2-4 (mixed ages) December through January.

Iota chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma educational sorority will meet for its annual “Santa Sale” 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Dec. 5, at the home of Jan Love.

Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 4 members – past, present and future – are being sought for a historic photo to be taken 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the ANB Founders Hall.
Members should wear their ANS koogeena and cap. White dress or suit is preferred. Those who do not yet have these items may wear a white blouse and black pants.
‘‘We have over 90 members in Sitka and a very rich history,’’ said Paulette Moreno, ANS Camp 4 president. ‘‘We are always ready to welcome new members.’’

The Sitka Tribe of Alaska health committee will meet noon-1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at the STA Social Services building, 110 American Street.

Cookie Drive
In Full Swing
A cookie drive in memory of the late Lois Perensovich is set noon-2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, at St. Gregory’s Corrigan Hall on Lincoln Street.
Lois prepared countless trays of baked Christmas cookies which she gave to others during her life.
A donation of three dozen Christmas cookies is being requested by individuals to continue the annual tradition.
Cookies will be packaged at St. Gregory’s, then delivered by the Salvation Army during its Christmas distribution to families.

Baby Girl Kyle
Sally Jane Kyle was born 12:53 p.m. on Nov. 6 at SEARHC Mt. Edgecumbe hospital to Frank and Tamara Kyle of Sitka.
At birth, the infant weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces, and was 21-1/2 inches long.
The father and mother are self-employed commercial fishermen.
Maternal grandparents are Ron and Karmon Conatser of Rice, Wash. Paternal grandmother is Kathy Kyle of Sitka. Great-grandparents are Shirley and Kenny Kimball of Sitka, and Georgia Planck of Poulsbo, Wash.
This is the couple’s first child.
Giving Tree Up
At Wells Fargo
The Giving Tree at Wells Fargo Bank lobby is up through Dec. 18.
Everyone is invited to stop by and pick up a tag for a child, youth or elder in need of a Christmas gift or two. Unwrapped gifts are to be returned to Wells Fargo Bank with the tag attached.
