Cathi Markegard, 69, Dies; Service to be Held Sept. 26

Catherine “Cathi” Lucille Markegard passed away peacefully on September 17, 2019, at the age of 69, in her home in Sitka, with her family by her side.
Services will be held at the First Baptist Church, 514 Halibut Point Road, at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2019.
Cathi is survived by her husband, James Markegard of Sitka; her children, Talli (Gouker) Van Horn (Justin) of Great Falls, Montana, and Tory Markegard (Maria) of Sitka; her grandchildren Chase Markegard of Juneau, Hailey Krebsbach of Tucson, Arizona, Cole Azar of Great Falls, Montana,  and Tadum Markegard and Rylee Markegard, both of Sitka.
She is also survived by her brother Bruce Stair (Sandy) of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and their daughter DeDe Stair of Fresno, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin “Jack” Stair, of Ocean Shores, Washington, and Jacqueline (Allaire) Bell of Sitka.
Cathi was born in Seattle, Washington, on January 17, 1950. Her family moved to Alaska in 1953, when she was 3 years old. She graduated from Sitka High School in 1968, then attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
 In 1977 she was married to Jim Markegard, in Sitkas.
She worked as an accountant for Alaska Lumber and Pulp Co. and then the Sitka School District, until she retired at 60. After retirement she enjoyed splitting her time between her homes in Sitka and Surprise, Arizona.
Cathi was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Sitka. She enjoyed music and she loved to sing. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.
