Ryan Silva
A visitation for Ryan Silva, hosted by his family, will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Prewitt Funeral Home.
A celebration of his life will take place at a future date, in New England.
Ryan passed away in Sitka Dec. 18, at the age of 43.
He was born in Ft. Benning, Georgia, on April 20, 1979, and grew up in Chelmsford, Massachusetts.
In July 2004 he came to Sitka with the U.S. Coast Guard and fell in love with Sitka’s impressive beauty.
He had a passion for the outdoors that included hunting, fishing, hiking, and dog field training.
His constant companion was his red Labrador retriever, Hunley.
Ryan’s enthusiasm for the things he loved was infectious; he would eagerly share his knowledge with anyone who would listen. His laugh was also incredibly infectious – something that always accompanied his witty jokes and countless stories.
“We cannot imagine the magnitude of the ripple effect of those he touched; he was a great friend to many,” his family said.
Ryan leaves behind his daughter, Haley Silva, and son, Gavin Silva; his mother, Marie Silva; his former wife and friend Lauren Silva; his sisters, Andrea Silva and Jessica Spates; and beloved niece, nephew, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Others he left behind are his friend Mary Ferguson and her son, Evander Elixman.

By GIL TRUITT: It seems like only yesterday that I was aboard the Alaska Coastal Airlines Grumman Goose, taking off from Wrangell, headed for my hometown, Sitka, in February 1947. I was a student at Wrangell Institute at the time but that was quickly forgotten when the “Goose” pulled up on the Japonski Island ramp. The big student movement to Sitka from Wrangell had begun. The creation of Mt. Edgecumbe High School was under way.
