Isabel James Chulik
Services for Isabel James Chulik were held Monday, March 13, at the Sitka Assembly of God church.
Isabel, a resident for 56 years, died in Sitka on March 8, 2023, at age 91.
She was born August 26, 1931, in Angoon, the daughter of Katie (Hopson) and Ike James. She grew up in Angoon then worked in canneries at Hood Bay and Chatham.
She and Paul Chulik were married in Juneau Oct. 22, 1949, and they moved to Sitka in 1967. She worked at SEARHC Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital, starting in housekeeping and ending in the finance office.
Isabel was a hard, dedicated worker, her family said. She loved crocheting and beading – and spending time with her grandkids.
Isabel was preceded in death by her husband, in 2010, and by her siblings, Lillian John, Edna James, Paul James Sr. and Elizabeth McCluskey.
She is survived by her children, Lorraine K. Powell of Henderson, Nevada, and Colleen J. Jackson, Paul S. Chulik Jr. and Veronica Chulik, all of Sitka; and grandchildren Lori Powell, Debi Jackson, Matfie McCarr Jr., Carol McCarr, Lillian McCarr and Paula Van Meter, all of Sitka, Donna Jackson of Anchorage, Cynthia Oyer of Illinois, and Danielle Castle and Diane Jackson, both of Fairbanks.
Also surviving are numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Named pallbearers are Matfie McCarr Jr., Ryan Castle, Raymond Ozawa, Paul Widman, Jeremiah Widman, Jaegar Young, Xavier Oyer, Miguel Reyes, and Jaxson Castle.
Honorary pallbearers are Russell James, Joe Johnson, Paul James Jr., Pete McCluskey Jr., Elliot James, Paul Thomas Sr., John McCluskey, Frank McCluskey, Robert James Jr., Thomas James, David James and Chuck Powell.
