Walter F. Jenny Dies; Lifelong Sitkan was 65

Walter Fredrick Jenny, a fisherman and lifelong Sitkan, died March 19, 2023, in Anchorage at the age of 65.

Services will be held on an Allen Marine boat on April 16.

Walter was born April 18, 1957, in Sitka, the son of Harold and Alma (Faulk) Jenny.

He graduated from Sitka High School in 1976, and attended a trade school in Arizona.

Over the years he was a troller and a longliner, worked at Alaska Lumber and Pulp in the powerhouse, and was a laborer and painter at Allen Marine for 20 years. 

He was very family oriented, and   cared a lot about his daughter and three grandsons. He enjoyed fishing with his brothers Doug and Dave. They fished the Sitka Salmon Derby each year together.

He loved outdoor activities, especially hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking and camping. He was an avid Seahawks fan, and a member of the Sitka Sportsmen’s Association.

Immediate survivors are his daughter Krista Hammock, son-in-law Anthony Hammock, and grandsons Gavin, Trenton and Killian Hammock, of Sitka; brothers Dave Jenny and Doug Jenny, of Sitka, and Alan Jenny of Arizona; sisters, Marianne Mcshane, of Arizona, Betty Jo Hoff of Texas, and Carolyn Davison of Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Alma (Faulk) Jenny; brothers Norman Jenny of Washington, and Victor Jenny of Sitka; sisters, Susan Witten of Washington, and Sandra Crause of Montana.

He also lost his best friend, Donald Davis, in 1976.
