LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. Mark Douglas Rawley
Former Sitka fisherman Mark Douglas Rawley, 54, of Winlock, Wash., passed away after a hard fight with cancer on Friday, May 17, 2013, in Olympia, Wash.
Mark was born in Juneau on April 19, 1959, the son of Ila and Howard “Red” Rawley. After graduating from Winlock High school in 1977 he officially began his fishing career. For the next 30 years he fished out of Sitka, on the F/V Stamsund.
In the early 2000s he retired from fishing and became a CNA and worked his way up to being the union representative for his area.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Ila and Howard “Red” Rawley; brother Mickey Rawley; and brother-in-law Earl Sayers.
He is survived by his sister Linda Sayers; his children Doug Orr and Deanna Allison; and his grandchildren, Dakota and Dillon Peavey, JD Orr, and Rilynn Thomas.
A memorial service is still being planned. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Cattermole Funeral Home 203 NW Kerron St., Winlock, WA 98596.
