Police Blotter
Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
July 10
A burnt orange backpack was lost at Thomsen Harbor.
A man was reported kicking and threatening his dog in the back of a truck on Davidoff Street.
At 9:50 a.m. a dog was reported hit by a car in the 1100 block of HPR. It was left in the care of the owner’s friend.
An abandoned green Trek bike was picked up.
A building was reported broken into at Kimsham ball fields.
At 12:47 p.m. a caller said cameras captured someone entering her home about an hour before.
At 3:42 p.m. a 911 caller reported a male fell and hit his head. He was taken to the hospital.
Police moved rocks out of the 2000 block of HPR.
An ambulance was called for a man who had been drinking. EMS asked for officers due to the man’s attitude.
Two people trespassed from a storage company went onto the property and left around 7:40 p.m., police were told. Company owners were advised to renew the trespass orders when they expire next month.
ER workers asked for help returning a patient to his home because he could not get up his stairs. An officer went to the home to meet the shuttle around 9 p.m. but no one showed up.
A Lab with an Ace bandage on its paw was seen running down HPR at 9 p.m.
At 9:50 p.m. a caller said a man who was high was refusing to leave the caller’s house. He agreed to leave, after officers arrived.
Gunshots were reported at 10:35 and 10:43 p.m. up Indian River but police found no source of gunshots or fireworks.
At 11 p.m. a bar employee asked for help with a drunk man who was being rowdy.
A man reported passed out at 11:25 p.m. at the Indian River trailhead was just taking a nap, police said.
July 11
At 12:15 a.m. an intoxicated man said two men stole his skateboard. He was taken into protective custody voluntarily due to his level of intoxication.
Fireworks were reported up Indian River Road at 12:43 a.m.
At 1:32 a.m. a visitor asked police to check on his friend, who he believes was too intoxicated to make it home safely. Police checked on the place where she was supposed to be staying and found everyone asleep.
At 5:38 a.m. a plume of smoke was reported in the 2500 block of HPR. Police found it was a man with a smoldering campfire. He said he would make sure it was out before he left.

Angela Castro, 39, was charged Wednesday with violating conditions of release.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 9:51 a.m., 12:16 p.m., 5:15 p.m. and 7:29 p.m. Wednesday and 8:14 a.m. today.
At 3:42 p.m. Wednesday a fire truck was sent to 200 Flume Circle after burned food set off the alarm.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
