TRUCK FIRE – Firefighters knock down a fire in a Ford Explorer truck in Arrowhead Trailer Park in the 1200 block of Sawmill Creek Road Saturday evening. One person received fire-related injuries and was taken to the hospital, Sitka Fire Department Chief Craig Warren said, and the truck was considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Warren said. For Foy J. Nevers
Services for Foy James Nevers, a Sitka resident since 1959, are pending.
Foy died at his home here Monday, Sept. 13, at the age of 83.
An obituary is planned for Friday.
Parking Closure
At Centennial Hall
A partial closure of the Harrigan Centennial Hall parking lot is planned 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, for a landscaping project.
City staff and volunteers will be landscaping at the hall and Sitka Public Library parking lots at 330 and 320 Harbor Drive. Some areas of the parking lots may be closed during these times. Contact the public works department with any questions at 747-1804.
Access Limited
At Campground
Vehicle access may be limited at the Starrigavan Recreation Area and Campground roads on Sept. 18, until 11 a.m., for a cross-country race hosted by Sitka High School, the U.S. Forest Service said.

Musical Staged by
Fine Arts Camp
Sitka Fine Arts Camp will present the smash hit musical ‘‘Little Shop of Horrors’’ Oct. 1-3 at the Sitka Performing Arts Center.
Performance times are 7 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
The show will feature professional actors from the San Francisco Bay Area along with local performers.
With crowd-pleasers like “Feed Me,” “Suddenly Seymour” and “Be a Dentist,” the show is sure to delight audiences of all ages, organizers said.
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for ages 12 and older for entry to the performance. All patrons must be masked at all times while at the PAC. Tickets are available at www.fineartscamp.org/shows.

Tribal Council
Meets Tonight
The Sitka Tribe of Alaska Tribal Council will meet 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, via Zoom.
The Tribal Council will review the third reading of the Drug and Alcohol Ordinance and the first reading of the Ordinance Governing Committees.

Fry Bread Sale

Fry bread made by Rachel Moreno will be on sale 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18. The probable location is ANB Founders Hall; however, the confirmed location will be announced.

City Cancels
Coffee Meeting
The Sept. 21 city’s Coffee with the Administrator has been canceled because of the high level of COVID-19 cases in Sitka.
The next Coffee with the Administrator is tentatively scheduled 6-8 p.m. Oct. 19, assuming COVID-19 positive cases decline to a safer level, the city said.
‘‘Please continue to follow the updates from our Emergency Operations Center to learn what you can do to help stop the spread of COVID-19,’’ a press release from the city said.
ANS Camp 4
To Meet Sept. 16
Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 4 invites all members to meet 11 a.m. Sept. 16 at the ANB Founders Hall.
The meeting is being held to conduct the third and final round of nominations for 2021-2022 officer positions.

Businesses using the Centennial Hall parking lot testified Tuesday against a proposal to charge them rent in addition to the $200 annual permit fee. City Administrator Hugh Bevan made the proposal in response to the Assembly’s direction to Centennial Hall manager Don Kluting to try to close the $340,000 gap between building revenues and operational costs.
