Put on Hold
Scripture Walks in the Park, sponsored by St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, is on hold. The final two walks will be 5:30 p.m. Aug. 24 and 31 at the Sitka National Historical Park. Participants meet at the visitor center.

Meeting Aug. 25
The Sitka Health Summit Coalition’s monthly Wooch.een – which means ‘‘together’’ in Tlingit – health networking and learning meeting will be held virtually noon-1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, via Zoom.

Quilters to Meet
Ocean Wave Quilters will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at United Methodist Church and via Zoom.
Monthly meetings, September through June, are open to all, members or not. Those wishing to pay the $25 dues receive a monthly newsletter, discounts on classes and other benefits.

Health Promoting
Ideas Being Sought
At the 14th annual Sitka Health Summit Planning Day on Sept. 15 two health-related initiatives will be chosen as this year’s community goals.
Each new goal receives an award of $2,000 plus additional support. Past goals have included the Teen Center (The Cloud), the Fish to Schools program, Sitka Farmers Market, the Choose Respect mural project, bike/walk friendly community programming, Sitka Kitch, supporting the Hames Center, downtown revitalization efforts, becoming a trauma informed community, CO2 emissions reduction, construction of the ADA accessible Sitka Community Playground and the 2021-2022 goals of building cabins to end homelessness and starting the community recreation initiative.
Residents of all ages are asked to provide answers, in three sentences or less, to the question: ‘‘What inspiring health initiative deserves Sitka’s attention in the next 365 days?” Entries can be submitted by noon Sept. 9 at www.sitkahealthsummit.org, by calling 907-966-8674, or by dropping off a written entry at the Hames Center, Sitka Public Library, UAS-Sitka Campus or WildFlour Cafe. Submission boxes will be at all sites.
Quilters Offer
Open Sewing
Ocean Wave Quilters will sponsor an open sewing session 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at United Methodist Church.
All are invited to attend. Irons, ironing boards, tables and chairs are provided. Lunch is a potluck. For more information call Linda Swanson at 907-747-3471.
Tourism Impacts
Asked of Sitkans
A team of student researchers from the Pardee RAND Graduate School is assisting the Sitka Sound Science Center and the broader community in understanding how tourism is impacting individuals and the community of Sitka.
Residents can participate in a brief and anonymous survey that should not take more than 10 minutes to complete, the science center said.
