August 15, 2022, Police Blotter

Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

August 12

At 3:56 a.m. a woman feeling stress said she might go to a secluded place to scream. She said she’d call police if she decided to do that.

At 7:24 a.m. two people were reported sleeping in the Crescent Harbor restroom. They were gone when officers arrived.

Two dogs were reported running at large on Moller field. Officers were advised.

Tools were reported stolen from a vehicle parked at Harbor Mountain Road and HPR.

At 1:09 p.m. ravens were reported getting into trash at the cruise dock.

A third-party conversation involving a driver in the 700 block of SMC was documented.

A dispute over parking in the 3300 block of HPR arose. A property owner was advised to make a fence more distinct.

A civil dispute arose over a deceased dog in the 1100 block of HPR.

A downtown business owner reported security cameras had indicated someone had shoplifted. Police determined no shoplifting had occurred.

At 10:55 p.m. an officer advised a citizen at Whale Park that the park closed at 10 p.m.

At 11:40 p.m. three juveniles at the skate park were told the park was closed.

August 13

At 12:14 a.m. a construction company reported someone was messing with the company’s site in the 3500 block of HPR.

At 2 a.m. a driver who had parked in the Sitka Fine Arts Camp area was found to have permission to be there.

At 1:22 p.m. someone was reported to have gotten into the ANB Founders Hall kitchen and made a mess.

Drug paraphernalia was found in the women’s restroom at a store. Officers disposed of it.

At 2:34 p.m. two people were reported in the water at Halibut Point Recreation Area near Magic Island. Police and others got the two out of the water, and no ambulance was needed. No other information was available.

At 3:15 p.m. a bear again was reported in the 2600 block of SMC. Wildlife troopers scared it off. While the bear wasn’t being aggressive, the reports said, it was not afraid of people.

A further dispute over a deceased dog arose at 8:37 p.m.

At 9:55 p.m. a caller complained about the noise from a party at a home off of the 3200 block of HPR. Officers contacted those having the party and they agreed to be quieter.

At 10:30 p.m. a caller reported hearing what sounded like a call for help, on Davidoff Street. However, police found it was a man calling for his dog.

At 10:58 p.m. two people were found sleeping near the library. Officers advised them of the law against sleeping in public, and they moved on.

At 11:49 p.m. four people were reported on Herring Cove Road. An officer talked to them and found they worked in the area and were just out for a walk.

August 14

A wallet was reported found at 2:25 a.m. The owner was listed as a resident of California, and the wallet was placed in the property drawer for now.

At 7:26 a.m. a caller said a man had knocked on her door on Spruce Street three times between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. Police found the man had the wrong address.

At 9:57 a.m. a man was reported sleeping next to the White Elephant Shop. He told police he was trying to stay out of the rain.

At 6:44 p.m. a man was reported in an area where construction equipment was stored. Police found it was his equipment.

At 11:59 p.m. an officer made contact with a man who was behind the library, using the free wi-fi. He was told to move on.

August 15

At 12:29 a.m. officers talked to a juvenile parked near the Kimsham ball fields and told him it was past curfew.

At 1:15 a.m. officers talked to an intoxicated man at Katlian and Lincoln streets.

At 3:04 a.m. officers advised a man on a bike he needed to have lights on.

At 4:50 a.m. TSA asked police to unload a passenger’s loaded gun.

 

Sitka Police

Tatiana Perkins, 40, was charged  Sunday with driving under the influence.

Allen Bohler, 25, was arrested Saturday on a charge of assault in the fourth degree.

Travis Hash, 40, was arrested Sunday on a charge of assault in the fourth degree.

Delane Black, 27, was arrested Sunday on a charge of assault in the fourth degree.

Janet Armer, 59, was arrested Friday on a charge of assault in the fourth degree.

John Bisset, 18, was arrested Friday on a state trooper warrant.

Amanda Tison Diamond was charged Friday with driving with a revoked license.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received seven ambulance calls Friday, six on Saturday and one on Sunday.

 

At 2:34 p.m. Saturday the fire hall responded to a police report that two people were in the water at Halibut Point Recreation Area, near Magic Island. The two were rescued and didn’t require an ambulance.

 

Wildlife Troopers

Dylan Woodall, 23, of Shelton, Washington, was charged with making a false statement, when he allegedly obtained a resident commercial crew license while he was actually a resident in the state of Washington. Troopers said they were patrolling the seine fishery in Deep Inlet when they contacted Woodall, who was given a summons to appear. 

Mark Mitchell, 58, of El Cajon, California, and Miguel Martinez, 56, of San Diego, were fined $120 each for failing to record their lingcod catches on their licenses as required by regulation.

Wildlife troopers said they contacted the commercial fishing tender Alaska Chieftain Aug. 12 and found multiple sport fishing violations. About 900 pounds of halibut was seized. Kapp Fredrick, 52, of Washington, the skipper and vessel captain, was given a summons to appear in district court. Jason Lang, 44, a crew member, was cited for unlawful possession of two yelloweye rockfish. Crew member Patrick Stewart, 55, of Florida, was issued a citation for unlawful sport fish gear. Crew member Andrew Wegmann, 29, of Los Angeles, was issued a citation for unlawful sport fishing gear.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
