Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.
August 15
At 12:29 a.m. officers talked to a juvenile parked near the Kimsham ball fields and told him it was past curfew.
At 1:15 a.m. officers talked to an intoxicated man at Katlian and Lincoln streets.
At 3:04 a.m. officers advised a man on a bike he needed to have lights on.
At 4:50 a.m. TSA asked police to unload a passenger’s gun.
At 8 a.m. port security staff reported a man sleeping on the bridge. He woke up, and officers found he was fine.
A caller reported a driver was swerving in the area of Sandy Beach. Officers found the vehicle parked, with no one in it.
At 9:48 a.m. a vehicle parked at Lake and Lincoln streets was barnacled. The driver paid a $25 parking fine and a $100 fee for having the barnacle device removed from the windshield.
A hotel turned in nine credit cards that customers – most of them from out of town – had left behind. The cards are in the police property drawer for now.
At 11 a.m. a semi clipped some electric wires in the 300 block of Monastery. Officers stood by while the electric department made repairs.
A man reported having an altercation with his supervisor. He was advised of options.
A caller said someone often sleeps in the area of Flume Circle and Indian River Road, which might pose a problem when school starts. Police took it under advisement.
An employer requested that an employee be trespassed.
At 1:44 p.m. a caller reported gravel was spilled in the roundabout. Police notified DOT.
Criminal mischief reported at Blue Lake Road and SMC is under investigation.
Two people in a minor traffic accident exchanged information.
At 4:33 p.m. TSA reported a rifle case had been left. The owner claimed it this morning.
At 6:37 p.m. TSA said a man in the lobby was causing a disturbance. A taxi was requested for him.
A man and a woman were reported arguing outside a downtown bar. They were gone when officers arrived.
At 8:22 p.m. a man was reported yelling and flipping off cars and people at Lake and Lincoln streets. He was gone when officers arrived.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received five ambulance calls.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
