An apparent low bid of $593,000 was offered for construction of Sitka Community College’s first building, which is to be a one-story, wood frame structure to be built on land purchased from Sheldon Jackson College. It will be next to the new Alaska State Public Safety Academy on Sawmill Creek Road. (Editor’s note: the Alaska Raptor Center is now on the site, and Sitka Community College is now UAS-Sitka Campus on Japonski Island.)
