SECOND CUP – Ceren Gokpinar, who was an AFS intercultural exchange student at Sitka High from 2017 to 2018, serves Turkish coffee she made to Pioneers Home resident Robin Emmens and others this afternoon. Gokpinar, who is currently studying to be a veterinarian in Turkey, returned to Sitka this summer to volunteer at Pet’s Choice and Sitka Animal Hospital and earn money at Pizza Express restaurant. Skye Workman, activities director at the home, remembered that Gokpinar had made coffee for residents and staff in 2018 and asked for a repeat visit, which she was prepared and happy to do. Tidal Network has been working tirelessly to install Starlink satellite equipment for city and other critical institutions, including the Sentinel, following the sudden breakage of GCI's fiberoptic cable on August 29, which left most of Sitka without internet or phone connections. CCTHITA's public-spirited response to the emergency is inspiring.
