Xóots Elementary School first-grader Nico Chavarillo-Groen, 7, holds up a sign as classmates cheer on classmates releasing schools of pink and chum salmon smolt in front of the SJ Hatchery this morning. The Sitka Sound Science Center had help from Pacific High School students as the grade school students carried plastic containers of smolt to the shore where they were gently released. The Science Center is hosting another fish release party, one for community members, later today.
