100 – Mike Perensovich is all smiles as Pioneers Home activities coordinator Skye Workman brings him a pineapple upside-down cake for his 100th birthday this afternoon at the state-run assisted living facility. At left is Alaska Dept. of Military and Veterans Affairs Director Verdie Bowen Sr. who presented Perensovich congratulatory citation and a medal. Perensovich, a World War II veteran, was in the news in 2014 when he belatedly received the prestigious Air Medal for the some 200 missions he flew as a flight engineer in the Berlin Airlift.
