Services for

Agripina Rivera

Are Scheduled

Services have been scheduled for Agripina Fernandez Rivera, a Sitka resident for 38 years.

A visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 19, at Prewitt Funeral Home. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at the interment shelter at Sitka Memorial Park, 803 Sawmill Creek Road.

Agripina died June 10, 2015, in Sitka. She would have been 86 on June 23.

She was born June 23, 1929, in Barangcuag, Tuao, Cayayan, Philippines, the daughter of Rufa Lamer and Domingo Fernandez. She and Alberto Rivera were married in 1961 in Tuao, Cagayan, Philippines. They lived in Hawaii for about five years before coming to Sitka, in 1978.

Agripina was a beloved custodian at Sitka High School for several years.

She was a loving sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, her family said. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

“Her courage and faith brought her to Sitka, where she worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for her brother, sister, nieces and nephew to join her in America. She will always be remembered for building the foundation of the beautiful life that she shared with her family.

“Agripina’s spirit will continue to shine through our many stories and memories.”

Agripina was preceded in death by her husband, Alberto Rivera.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Myrna (Felix) Civera, Jose (Jocelyn) Rivera, Jesse (Shonnie) Rivera and Mario Rivera; grandchildren Nicole Rivera, Brooke Hutchinson (Shawn), Mariska Cirera Probst (Kelly), Brandon Rivera, Marianna Rivera, Jarred Rivera, Dayton Thomas Rivera, Mya Kaye Rivera, Jesnie May Rivera, Jake Stevenson Rivera and Jesse Jr. Rivera; and great-grandchildren Mia Probst, Jordyn Luoma, Myles Monty Hutchinson, Brody Luoma and Peyton Luoma.

Her brother, Sixto Fernandez, and sisters Conostancia Joson, Mercedez Sibayan and Lirio Javier also survive.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Brave Heart Volunteers, 747-4600.
