US--TENNESSEE EXECUTION
Emergency help was delayed by confusion after failed execution of Christa Pike, 911 calls reveal
SUMMARY: Emergency help for Christa Pike was delayed by confusion among first responders and Tennessee prison officials following her failed execution last month, according to 911 dispatch recordings reviewed by The Associated Press. The recordings show that precious minutes elapsed as officials and responders tried to figure out whether a request for emergency help in the execution chamber was legitimate. The first call came in at 8:40 p.m. on Sept. 30. It was about a half an hour before prison officials affirmed it was legitimate. Pike had been hospitalized after surviving the state’s attempt to execute her for the 1995 beating and stabbing death of a classmate. She has since been discharged and is back at the women’s prison.

US--EXTREME-WEATHER
Storms leave 2 dead in Mexico as flash-flood risk from Rachel lingers across the Southwest US
SUMMARY: Extreme tropical weather has led to two deaths and widespread damage in Mexico. Authorities said Monday that Hurricane Simon was pounding the Pacific coast over the weekend, leading to the death of a 71-year-old man and a young girl. In Baja California, at least 10 people are missing, and a young girl died following tropical storm Rachel. Rachel weakened into a post-tropical cyclone as it moved north and buffeted Southern California with wind and rain. Forecasters issued flood watches and warned more rain and isolated thunderstorms could hit the Southwestern U.S. after the remnants of Rachel caused severe flooding in Las Vegas over the weekend.

US--TRUMP-THE LATEST
The Latest: Rep. Omar says she will ‘not be silenced’ after Homeland Security searches her home
SUMMARY: Federal agents have searched the home of Democratic U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar. It’s a startling escalation in a criminal investigation that brings renewed scrutiny to the frequent target of Trump administration derision in the final weeks of her reelection bid. The Justice Department confirmed that a judicially authorized search warrant of Omar’s home was executed by Homeland Security Investigations but provided no other details. Trump administration officials have repeatedly hinted at the existence of an inquiry targeting the Minnesota representative. Omar called the search an “attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement.”

Federal judge orders Trump administration to halt work for a day on historic DC golf course
SUMMARY: A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to halt work for a day on a historic D.C. golf course, pending more court action. U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes issued the order Monday after a tense three-hour hearing in which she blistered the government for having deceived her with its actions over the holiday weekend. It’s the latest example of the erosion of trust between the government and the independent judiciary as the Trump administration tries to steamroll scrutiny of its actions, from the White House ballroom to immigration enforcement.

US--ILHAN-OMAR-SEARCH
Agents search Rep. Omar’s Washington home in criminal probe as she vows she won’t ‘be silenced’
SUMMARY: Minnesota congresswoman Ilhan Omar says she will “not be silenced” and calls a search of her Washington home part of President Donald Trump’s “intimidation” campaign. House Democratic leaders are condemning the search of Omar’s home as an “abuse of power” by the Republican administration. Federal agents searched the Democratic congresswoman’s home as part of a criminal investigation. The search in the final weeks of Omar’s reelection bid was conducted Monday by Homeland Security Investigations agents. Details about the investigation are unclear. Republicans have in the past accused Omar of committing immigration fraud, an allegation she denies.

Elon Musk quietly becomes biggest known donor in midterm contests as he tries to save Republicans
SUMMARY: Trillionaire Elon Musk has quietly become the biggest known spender in this year’s midterm elections, doling out more than $276 million since July to try to save Republican majorities in the House and Senate. The numbers were first reporter by the New York Times ahead of this week’s federal filing deadline and confirmed by Andrew Romeo, a spokesperson for Musk’s super PAC. US--ELECTION 2026-VOTING RESTRICTIONS
Many GOP states have imposed new voting rules this year, some mirroring Trump’s midterm proposals
SUMMARY: Voters in more than 20 states will be faced this year with new laws for registering to vote and casting ballots. Nearly 40 laws are taking effect for the first time in this year’s midterms, mostly in Republican-controlled states. Many of them mirror changes President Donald Trump tried but failed to implement at the national level, including voter ID rules or requirements for people to show documents proving U.S. citizenship when registering to vote. Republican lawmakers who support the tighter voting laws, especially around voter ID, describe them as common sense changes that help build trust in elections.

Zelenskyy says Russia strikes energy facilities despite Trump claim of an energy ceasefire
SUMMARY: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Russia is still striking Ukraine’s energy facilities despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim of an energy ceasefire. Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum in Poland on Monday, Zelenskyy said he is willing to honor the agreement if Russia does, but said that following Trump’s announcement Russia struck energy facilities, including a power plant in the northeastern city of Kharkiv, a gas production facility and a civilian gas station. The European Union’s top diplomat is skeptical of the ceasefire, noting there are no signs Russia will respect it. Meanwhile, a Russian drone hit a residential building in Kyiv late Monday, killing two people and injuring five others.

Saudis probe how defense systems failed to stop deadly Houthi attack on Riyadh airport
SUMMARY: Saudi Arabia has launched an investigation into how its air defenses failed to intercept missiles and drones fired by Iran-backed Houthi rebels. The attack on Riyadh airport killed at least 13 people and wounded over 300. Officials say the Houthis first used drones to pave the way for missiles to reach the airport. The investigation also aims to determine why the air defense systems did not provide earlier warning. Saudi state-run media reported a new attack involving drones and cruise missiles on Monday. The Saudis are seeking more direct U.S. involvement in their fight against the Houthis.

EU--RUSSIA-US-DIESEL DEAL POLITICS
The Kremlin relishes in the US-Russia diesel deal and Trump’s criticism of Zelenskyy
SUMMARY: A deal between Moscow and Washington over exports of Russian diesel and fresh U.S. criticism of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mark important political victories for the Kremlin. While the size of Russia’s diesel exports are relatively small and unlikely to significantly impact prices, the revenue will help Moscow replenish its war coffers. More importantly, it will undermine efforts by Kyiv and its European allies to put up a united front to President Vladimir Putin. Remarks by President Donald Trump suggesting that Ukraine should get a new leader to replace Zelenskyy also strengthens the Kremlin’s hand at a critical junction of the 4 1/2-year-old war.

Suspected plot at US-run air base almost certainly directed by Iran, UK prime minister says
SUMMARY: British Prime Minister Andy Burnham says Iran’s Revolutionary Guard almost certainly directed a plot to attack a U.S.-run military air base in England. Police arrested seven men in connection with the alleged plan to target RAF Fairford, but all suspects have been released on bail. Authorities found gasoline but no explosives in the suspects’ vehicles. Iran denies involvement, although it considers any base used to attack its territory a legitimate target. The U.K. has added two Iranians to its sanctions list, accusing them of conducting espionage and attacks on behalf of Iran in Europe and the U.S.
