Card of Thanks

Dear Editor: The community of Sitka has overwhelmed me and my family with its outpouring of cards, flowers, gifts and wonderful food upon the death of my beloved husband, Pete Karras.

My family’s hearts are filled with gratitude and love having witnessed such generosity of spirit from the community and beyond.

Especial thanks to Karen Christner, Betty Jo Moore and all their helpers (some of whom flew in from out of town) to make the celebration of Pete’s life such  a beautiful and bountiful success.

This has all served as a reminder that the true heart of Sitka is in the good and generous hearts of its people. Please accept our heartfelt thanks.

Police Response

Dear Editor: On the early evening of April 10, one of my daughters was involved in a single-vehicle accident that could have resulted in a serious injury. Despite the extensive property damage the only injury she received was a surface scratch on the top of her foot. I want to compliment the local police department officers who responded to the call, especially Officer Wheeler.

Not only was he there to protect and serve, he was extremely understanding and  helpful in assisting in removing the car from under a covered entryway. Shortly after he and the other officer arrived, the tow truck I called also arrived.

Between Officer Wheeler, the tow truck operator and the consultant he called, they were able to remove the vehicle from its location within 35 minutes. Not only did they prevent any more damage tot he structure they assisted us in getting the car to a secure parking spot. My compliments to the department staff and officers who wake up every day to protect and serve our town.
