AMP Testing

Dear Editor: In an email from Lon Garrision this weekend Mr. Garrision wrote the following. “It is my understanding that each of the building administrators have been told that every parent has the right to withhold their child from AMP testing if they so choose and that that action will not carry any punitive measures for the child or parent.”

I would add that extends to students. The state recognizes student or parental refusal. I want to thank Mr. Garrision for the clarification.

Bicycle Trip

Dear Editor: We have plans to try and do a coast-to-coast bicycle trip this spring/summer. Steve on his bicycle, Amelia and Layla (our dog) in the support vehicle.

Several people have asked how they might follow our journey so we opened a public Instagram account to post pictures and short text as we work our way east.

The Instagram app is free. Search for gagesteve.

We hope to be back the first part of August. Have a great summer.

Steve, Amelia & Layla Gage, Sitka
