White E Grant Thanks
Dear Editor: This letter of thanks to the White Elephant Board and staff is long overdue. In March, Sitka Kitch received a grant from the White E to support the efforts to offer cooking and culinary classes to local residents. The classes are essential to our mission to make facilities, skills training sessions and information on the importance of wise food choices, principles of good nutrition to health and well-being available to the community.
It has been rewarding to have local chefs, foods teachers and home cooks with specific skills step up to share their expertise, all offering participants opportunities to try varied preparation methods and use some unfamiliar ingredients. The classes also stress the safe, efficient use and maintenance of cooking tools, the importance of sanitation in food preparation and the satisfaction gained from preparing food.
Sitka Kitch operations from the certified kitchen at the Presbyterian Church and is trying to acquire the very basic cooking equipment needed for the classes. The White E grant enabled SK to order some of the measuring equipment needed. Thank you for the funding, for the well-publicized notice of availability of grant funds and for the streamlined, simple grant application process used.
Thank you for the great work you do And, thanks for your generous funding.
Dorrie Farrell, Sitka
