‘Wait Wait’

Dear Editor: Another Greater Sitka Arts Council event is over, the third Sitka version of the ‘‘Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me’’ radio news comedy quiz show. It was darn ‘‘good and plenty.’’ To me to be included in the ‘‘stars” of the show are the writers, second to none – Tom Hesse, Robert Woolsey who also provided the surprise prop for the ending, Emily Kwong and Ashia Lane. They worked several months in advance putting together the script for this show. They are smart, sassy, fun, funny and very good writers as witnessed by those in attendance – bravo to them.

Thank you to Old Harbor Books and staff for their selling of tickets – that is a great deal for all. The stage was masterfully set by Jeanne Stolberg who also did a peerless job on the sound. Rachel Bratager and Charlie Morgan were the capable hands on the lights; the Performing Arts Center crew was helpful as always. Thank you, J Bradley.

Thank you also to Greta Healy for building management, accurate score keeping, and usher wrangling. Our appreciation goes out to all the shops that allowed us to put up flyers, and the local media for their publicity: Daily Sitka Sentinel, Raven Radio, KIFW, Sitka Soup and the Capital City Weekly.

Belly Meat provided wonderful musical interludes, consisting of Ernie Eggleston, Bob Jacobs, Gary Gouker and Ted Howard. The show was matchlessly managed by host Stefanie Ask and Seaton Bryan, the announcer. The panelists, Collette Costa from Juneau, Phil Burdick and Sitka’s own Finn Straley, were up for the challenge and provided wonderful riffs, improvised asides, and extemporized comments.

Other thanks go to Jesuit Volunteers Molly Johnson, Clare Sanchez, Sarah Curley and Catlin Lavorgna, along with Ian Sweeney for TV work. Front of house thanks to John Stein, Cleo Brylinsky, Amelia Budd, Megan Pasternak and Sarah Lawrie. Thank you to John Straley and Lt. Lance Ewers for helping solve the mysterious conclusion of the show. A huge thank you to our sponsors: Harry Race, ALPS, Sea Mart, Gouker Custom Machining, Eagle Bay Inn, AC Lakeside, Chocolate Moose, Old Harbor Books, Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska, First Bank, Dawson Construction and Nuerobehavioral Consultants, who brought you the Listener Limerick Challenge.

This year’s producers were Jeff Budd, Sarah Lawrie and Blossom Twitchell. The Sitka audience, as always, was magnificent – thank you! Thank you to one and all.

Jeff Budd,

Greater Sitka Arts Council

Anonymous Donor

Dear Editor: We would like to thank the generosity of the anonymous donor who donated free tickets for Thursday night’s performance of the movie ‘‘Miracles from Heaven.’’

It was a wonderful movie, for both the heart and the soul. Again, a big thanks to whoever you are.
