Spring Art Walk
Dear Editor: Wow, the Art Walk on Friday, April 14, was an absolute blast. The collaboration between the Island Artist Gallery and the Greater Sitka Arts Council proved to be a great success.
There is no way that this event can happen without the participation of so many merchants, artists and musicians.
To the merchants of Lincoln Street who kept their doors open after hours to make this event happen, thank you. Each merchant had at least one, if not two, artists featured, which was so great. They also provided door prizes to help increase participation by the shoppers. Several musicians provided music up and down the street to carry shoppers from one location to the next. Which added to the liveliness of the event.
We would also like to thank our advertisers, KCAW, Sitka Soup and Sitka Sentinel. They did an excellent job helping to get the word out to the community.
Thanks to all who participated in this event. It is one of the reasons Sitka is such an amazing place to live.
Our next large event will be Porchfest on May 20. This family-friendly event will have art, musicians, food carts and pop-up art booths up and down Lincoln Street. It is a free event and open to all.
The next Greater Sitka Arts Council Art Walk will be in November. If you are an artist or musician who would like to be connected with a merchant for this event, please contact the Greater Sitka Arts Council at thinkartthinksitka@gmail.com, so that your information can be collected. If you are a merchant who was unable to participate this art walk and would like to be considered for the November event, again, please contact the Greater Sitka Arts Council. We would love to have the entire street as a part of these events.
Again, thanks to all who made this event the fun evening it was.
