See You Later

Dear Editor: ‘‘South to Wisconsin; we’re going south, the rush is on!’’ We’re leaving Sitka for the Midwest after 31 years. Here, we completed raising three daughters, saw them married, buried one, and celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Back in the ’80s, as I sat looking across Sitka channel, I saw otters rolling in the kelp, and heard sea lions roaring across the channel. An eagle swooped down and plucked a fish out of the sea, and a float plane droned by. It could have been a child’s book, titled, ‘‘Oh, What a Marvelous Place!’’

Saying ‘‘goodbye’’ is too final, so a ‘‘see you later’’ will have to do for all who have touched our lives.

See you later,

Carl and Sue Burgeson, Sitka
