The following calls were recorded as of 8 a.m. today.
April 21
At 9:15 a.m. a man was reported sleeping in a bike shed in the 100 block of Lincoln Street. He was awakened, found to be able to care for himself, and sent on his way.
A caller reported tax fraud.
A caller said a former boyfriend of his daughter was hanging around. Police told him to stop.
A dog with a red collar that was running at large at Pioneer Park was impounded.
At 6:07 p.m. a very intoxicated man was reported trying to get in at a lodge. He was taken to the hospital.
At 11:26 p.m. a caller complained of a woman who was praying and causing a disturbance. The woman was taken to her home.
April 22
At 7:40 a.m. a caller reported someone was stealing dirt from a pile at the Kimsham ball field. Police said the dirt is labeled for public use.
At 9:10 a.m. trash cans were reported overflowing in the 5300 block of HPR. Residents there agreed to clean up the mess.
At 9:44 a.m. a construction company worker was reported yelling. Police found he was upset about a relationship.
An injured dog was reported seen at Sandy Beach. Police found no dogs in the area.
A report of a sex offense is being investigated.
A red suitcase was seen at the O’Connell Bridge but it was gone when officers arrived.
At 9:21 p.m. fireworks were reported at Halibut Point Rec.
April 23
At 1 a.m. a bartender said a man was refusing to leave. He was gone when officers arrived.
At around 8:30 p.m. police received multiple calls about fireworks near Halibut Point Rec. Officers gave about 20 people warnings about shooting off fireworks. At 9:11 p.m. a man living nearby also was given a warning about setting off fireworks.
At 8:40 p.m. a bear was seen on Darrin Drive. It was scared away.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received three ambulance calls Friday, one on Saturday and one on Sunday.
At 8:01 a.m. Friday a fire was called in on Seward Avenue but it was a false alarm.
At 2:26 p.m. Saturday a fire call came in from the 300 block of Katlian but it was a false alarm.
Wildlife Troopers
Colin T. Sutton, 37, was fined $5,000, with $2,500 suspended, after he pleaded guilty on April 19 to three counts of false statements on licenses, one count of failing to have nonresident locking tags for big game and one count of falsification of a commercial license. He was ordered to pay $2,102 in restitution and his Alaska licenses were revoked for two years. Wildlife troopers said Sutton was charged in 2021 after he made false statements on resident hunting and commercial fishing permits spanning 2015 to 2020 license years. “Investigation revealed Sutton lives in Mexico and does not qualify for Alaska resident licenses,” troopers said.
