April 3, 2023, Police Blotter

The following calls were recorded as of 8 a.m. today.

March 31

At 3:19 p.m. a caller said he felt like the driver of a van was trying to intimidate him as he walked on Seward Avenue. Officers were advised.

At 3:32 p.m. a man was reported sleeping beneath O’Connell Bridge. Police told him to move along.

A person told police about finding a cat with puncture wounds in  its legs last month. No other details were given.

A man was reported being unruly in a Harbor Drive establishment at 11:56 p.m. Officers gave the man a disorderly conduct warning.

April 1

At 3:09 p.m. a caller reported seeing a man fall out of a parked car, apparently due to intoxication, on Katlian Street. He was gone when officers arrived.

At 3:23 p.m. a caller reported a Nintendo switch had been stolen.

At 3:36 p.m. a woman was reported putting objectionable fliers on vehicles in the 200 block of Katlian Street. Police removed the fliers.

At 4:53 p.m. a bike was reported stolen from the Hames Center. Police located the bike and returned it to the center.

At 10:37 p.m. a caller said a man had tried to sell him cocaine at a downtown bar. The bar told police  the man was kicked out for the night.

April 2

At 12:13 a.m. two women were reported fighting in the SMC side of Sitka National Historical Park. They were gone when officers arrived.

At 5:39 a.m. juveniles were reported smoking and drinking on Naomi Kanosh Lane. Officers did not see any such juveniles in the area.

 

Sitka Police

Jacobo I. Lopez-Vasquez, 27, was charged Saturday with violating conditions of release on a December charge of driving under the influence.

Zachary A. Loewen, 33, was charged this morning with driving under the influence.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received two ambulance calls Friday, one  on Saturday, and one on Sunday.

 

Wildlife Troopers

Marty Martinez, 41, of Metlakatla, was cited for employing unlicensed crew, and Tristan Hayward-Winter, 26, of Washington state, was cited for no crew license Sunday.

Alaska Wildlife Troopers said the citations came after they contacted Hayward-Winter aboard the F/V Shauna Rose in the Sitka Sound commercial sac roe herring fishery, and found he didn’t have a 2023 crew license.

Each citation carries a $270 fine.

 

Marriages

The following couples applied for marriage licenses in March:

Brody Kenon Sumauang and Kennedy Kay Bailey; Christopher John Daniel and Shoshauna Lou Schmidt; Thomas Andreas Grammon and Janice Raylene Azzam; Rafe Aaron Hanson and Myia Kale Walen; and Paul Vaughn Blankenship and Darby Lynne Ipock.
