Article Response
Dear Editor: Recently, an article was published concerning the future of the USFS trailer court here in Sitka. In that article a particular statement was made that, although technically correct, needs to be expanded upon. Mr. Ken Dinsmore is quoted making the statement that “We feel that’s not a good decision because you’re going to displace 10 people up there…” in support of removing the trailer court from the administrative list of parcels to be considered for sale. While technically correct, those 10 people he mentions are only the employees of the USFS that live in the trailer court. The actual number of people that would be displaced is closer to 23.

Philippines Donations
Dear Editor: Mission accomplished. We recently returned from Tacloban City, Leyte, Philippines. We want to thank the people of Sitka for their generous support and donations for the victims of super-typhoon Yolanda. Thank you for donations made at grocery store donation boxes, from businesses, people who bought from the table I had at the Christmas bazaar, support from the radio stations, the Sitka Daily Sentinel, and for help with the shipping.
From the cash donations we were able to purchase food to serve 400 families. We also handed out bags of goods like toothpaste, clothes, canned food, flashlights, toys and more to those 400 families.
Kettleson Memorial Library had donated books which were given to the Manlurip Elementary School. We met Mitch Albom, who wrote ‘‘Tuesdays with Morrie,’’ who was also helping to re-establish 10 schools in the area as well.
The people were really appreciative of the donations because quite a bit of the aid has gotten stuck in Manila and never made it to this area. We were afraid that there might be problems with disorder when we went to distribute the donations, but everyone was so appreciative that we had orderly lines, great politeness and smiles all around. Thank you, Sitka, for being such a generous, wonderful place to live.
Myrna and Felix, Cirera, Sitka
