Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

April 7

At 12:59 a.m. a caller reported hearing screaming from an apartment. Police responded and a case was opened.

At 1:28 a.m. a caller reported seeing a man in an apparently altered mental state near the White Elephant shop. Officers found two persons in the area but they were able to care for themselves.

At 8 a.m. a caller said brakes had failed on a vehicle being  backed down a driveway in the1900 block of HPR, and the vehicle landed in a ditch. One person was taken to the hospital to be checked out and the vehicle was towed.

A woman said her garbage can had gone into a ditch in the 2000 block of HPR. Officers helped her get it out.

A man said a dog had growled at him on Brady Street and he’d fallen into a ditch and been injured.

A man said another man with whom he had issues was threatening to fight him.

A caller on Eberhardt said someone was cutting trees on his property and one tree had fallen into a neighbor’s property. Officers were advised.

A taxi was called for an intoxicated man outside a downtown hotel.

At 10:28 p.m. a man was reported to have gone missing from a home. He was later found, unclothed, at the roundabout and taken to a medical facility.

April 8

At 1 a.m. a deer with a broken leg was found in the 1700 block of HPR. Officers had to dispatch it, and it was taken to the Raptor Center.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received five ambulance calls Thursday.

A fire call came in at 12:02 p.m. after smoke was spotted coming from the generator building at Thomsen Harbor. However, there was no fire and the call was canceled.

 

Sitka Police

Amanda Y. Oktoyak, 36, was charged Wednesday with assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence. She posted $250 bail and was released.

Shawn J. Chandler, 29, was charged Thursday with assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence. He posted $250 bail and was released.
