A memorial service for Fred Archie Nielsen has been set tentatively for 6 p.m. June 19, Friday, at the Sheet’ka Kwaan Naa Kahidi.
Archie died June 12 in Anchorage, where he had been receiving medical care. He was 81.

He was born Aug.14, 1933, in Sitka, the son of Peter C. and Dora Bertha (Howard) Nielsen. In 1954, he graduated from Sitka High School, where he had played basketball.
He served in the U.S. Marines in Korea, then returned to Sitka.
He was a member of the Sitka Tribal Council, and several years ago he and his brother John Nielsen attended an Indian Roads and Reservations workshop in Rapid City, S.D., where they helped shape a resolution that successfully called for fast ferries for Alaska, John said.
Archie was preceded in death by his wife, Lucretia; a sister, Agnes Bartels; and brothers Arthur, Albert and Raymond.
He is survived by his daughter Eileen Weathers of Anchorage; granddaughters Jaime Paris and Jessica Nielsen, Sitka; sister Kathleen Williams, who resides in the Anchorage Pioneers Home; and brother John Nielsen of Sitka.
