Police Blotter
Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
August 9
A $40 bike head lamp was reported stolen at Thomsen Harbor.
A gray bike was reported stolen.
A case of drug abuse was reported.
Harbors asked for an officer to assist in evicting a woman from a boat at Thomsen. No one was on the boat.
A driver was cited after hitting a parked vehicle at 475 Katlian.
At 5:19 p.m. a caller reported a man was trying to take his child from the mother at an apartment off SMC. The mother said the child was fine but traumatized.
At 7 p.m. a caller said a man had passed out in the library. Officers responded and found a second man, also asleep. Both agreed to leave.
At 9:25 p.m. a caller said his girlfriend had fallen off a bike and hit her head. She was taken to the hospital.
At 11:19 p.m. a 911 caller said a man who’d been standing in the road at 1000 SMC had fallen over. He was gone when officers arrived.
August 10
At 4:43 a.m. a 911 caller said a women had collapsed at the airport terminal. She was taken to a hospital.
An officer checked on a house that the owner had been told was being lived in, and talked to a man in front of it. The man admitted being inside and was warned he faced trespass charges.
A dead dog was reported floating in the water at Whale Park.
A fender-bender was reported at 1046 HPR.
A caller said a suitcase and coat were on the sidewalk at the cemetery on Indian River Road. Nothing was found in the suitcase.
A caller said men were stripping parts off a trailer while the owner is out of town.
A caller complained jackhammering was going on all day and night in the 3700 block of HPR.
A caller said deckhands on a fishing boat had pitched several bags of trash overboard into the harbor.
At 9:34 p.m. a caller said a driver on SMC didn’t have headlights on and was swerving. The driver told officers he had borrowed the car while visiting and was unfamiliar with it. He showed no signs of intoxication.
At 10:43 p.m. a caller said his fiance had stolen his gun on her way to work after they’d argued. She told officers her fiance had given her the gun and she took it to work every night.
August 11
At 12:44 a.m. a caller said someone appeared to be trying to get into her van. Officers found no one in the area.
At 1:32 a.m. a 911 caller reported being attacked by someone who was still in the home. Officers spoke with the parties, and the caller said she didn’t want to press charges.
At 3:52 a.m. a man was reported passed out in a store parking lot. Officers requested EMS but the man refused transport. He was deemed able to care for himself and headed home.
At 5:52 a.m. a caller said a man was either sleeping or passed out on a boat at ANB Harbor, and music was playing. Officer found he was intoxicated but able to care for himself, and he agreed to turn down the music.
A resident lost a Samsung cell phone.
A caller said two men were sleeping in a trailer without permission.
A baby’s knitted slipper was found on the sidewalk at Lake and Lincoln.
A man said a woman hit his 3-year-old daughter in church. Police forwarded charges to the assistant district attorney for review, an officer said.
An Observatory Street resident asked police to pick up a stray cat.
A Samsung phone was reported lost.
A woman said her neighbors were controlling her iPhone, harassing her and stealing items from her. She was advised of her options.
Police handled a complicated bike ownership situation. (See story, Page 1.)
Suspicious activity in the 3300 block of HPR was reported. Police were advised.
At 6:52 p.m. a caller reported a domestic order violation.
At 7 p.m. a man and woman were reported screaming and making crashing sounds. They told police they had been arguing, something was thrown, but no one was injured. The woman told police she wanted the man to take a walk to cool off, which he did.
A resident lost a ReSound hearing aid on Friday.
At 8:10 p.m. a 911 caller said kids were riding dirt bikes on Lance Drive. Police told their mom the bikes aren’t “street legal,” and she said it wouldn’t happen again.
At 8:14 p.m. a caller said it appeared a man fell off his bike on Katlian and was unconscious. He was taken to the hospital. Police went to retrieve his bike, but it was gone.
An ambulance crew was sent to help a woman who had fallen in her home.
August 12
At 12:21 a.m. a 911 caller said a woman he believed to be intoxicated had come into his house through the window, yelled at him, then refused to leave until he threatened to call police Police were unable to find her.
An ambulance was dispatched for a man who was passed out at 4:45 a.m. on the ANB Harbor dock. He refused treatment and went home.
Sitka Police
Sierra Greinier, 21, was remanded for violating conditions of release Friday after testing positive for meth.
Tommy Svilar, 23, was charged on a felony warrant Friday for failure to maintain contact with a pretrial enforcement division officer and follow instructions. He also was charged with violating conditions of release.
Kalina Heitman-Merkel, 28, was arrested Sunday on a Sitka warrant.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received four ambulance calls Friday, three Saturday, and seven Sunday.
At 1:56 p.m. Friday a fire truck was sent to 100 Alice Loop on a false alarm.
