Sitka Police Department received the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.
August 13
At 12:01 a.m. officers warned residents on Knutson Drive not to leave out garbage that could attract bears.
At 12:23 a.m. flower boxes in the 200 block of Katlian were reported vandalized, with plants torn up. An officer picked up the debris.
At 2:57 a.m. a bear call came in from Mikele Street, and at 3:11 a.m. one came in from Patterson Way.
At 9:19 p.m. garbage was reported strewn on Cascade Creek Road.
At 2:22 p.m. a welfare check was requested in the 1500 block of HPR.
A civil dispute arose at 3:19 p.m. in the 1300 block of SMC.
At 3:20 p.m. two people were reported having a dispute on Georgeson Loop. Officers found it was a verbal argument.
At 4:22 p.m. a playful brown Lab was reported running at large near the trooper academy. It was taken to the animal shelter.
At 5:57 p.m. a dead raven was found near Sawmill Creek apartments.
An incident of threatening came in from Thomsen Harbor at 7:16 p.m. The person reporting the threats was advised of options.
At 9:48 p.m. a bear call came in from Lifesaver Drive.
At 11:39 p.m. a man was reported sleeping in front of the airport. He told officers he had been unable to find a room. Officers said they would check on him during the night.
At 11:57 p.m. a bear call came in from Lance Drive.
August 14
An officer said a man had started running away in the 200 block of Lincoln Street at 12:38 a.m.
A citizen assist call was reported at 2500 HPR at 3:08 a.m.
At 3:46 a.m. citizen contact was made at Sealing Cove.
At 5:50 a.m. a bankcard was found at Lincoln Street and Harbor Drive. The owner was contacted and picked it up later in the day.
At 10:26 a.m. a citizen assist at the skate park was logged.
At 2:37 p.m. a brown Lab was reported running at large at Shelikof Street and HPR.
A civil dispute arose on Davidoff at 2:42 p.m.
At 10:34 p.m. a bear was reported on Lifesaver Drive.
At 10:52 p.m. a man was reported intimidating a woman at a bar. Police gave the woman transportation to a home.
August 15
At 12:46 a.m. a report came in of minors consuming at a residence. An officer talked to them.
Between 12:53 a.m. and 4 a.m. residents on Indian River Road, Andrew P. Hope Street, Katherine Benson Drive, Rudolph Walton Circle, and Charlie Joseph Street were cited for having bear attractions.
At 6:05 p.m. a bear was reported digging into the ground in the Indian River Road area.
A woman asked for a welfare check on a person who apparently had fallen asleep during a phone call. Officers found the person was OK.
At 1:58 p.m. a caller asked for a welfare check on a person who had gone out fishing. The person was found to have had a case of seasickness.
At 2:39 p.m. two children, ages 10 and 4, were reported unaccompanied near the Sheldon Jackson campus. An officer took them to their home and spoke to their mother.
At 5:58 p.m. a man was reported yelling in a parking area in the 700 block of HPR. He was gone when officers arrived.
An incident of drunkenness was reported in the 700 block of Katlian at 9:20 p.m.
At 11:14 p.m. a 911 caller reported a women dressed all in black clothing was near the Edgecumbe Drive roundabout.
August 16
At 12:35 a.m. a man was reported running behind a business in the 1300 block of SMC.
Bear calls came in at 3:09 a.m., 3:29 a.m., 3:41 a.m. and 3:47 a.m. from Lance Drive.
At 3:59 a.m. a curfew violation was reported. However, police found the two persons were over age 18.
Sitka Police
Eric Bautista, 24, was charged Saturday with assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence; and criminal mischief in the fifth degree, domestic violence.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received four ambulance calls Friday, four more on Saturday, and eight on Sunday.
On Friday a fire alarm sounded in the 4500 block of SMC after a business’s system malfunctioned.
At 5:32 p.m. Sunday a car fire was reported at Sandy Beach but it turned out the car’s battery had begun smoking, and the driver took care of it before the fire truck arrived.
At 5:59 p.m. a dryer fire was reported at the Coast Guard base. A SFD crew dealt with it with an extinguisher.
