Child Care Meeting
Dear Editor: The Early Childhood Coalition/Child Care Now would like to invite Sitka to a public discussion with Chris Brown, a staffer with Sen. Dan Sullivan. Mr. Brown is touring Alaska to gain information and input on the status of child care in the state. He will be looking for ways the federal government can ease the child care situation in Alaska. He will be meeting with the public on Monday, Aug. 19, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in room 106 at UAS-Sitka Campus.
This is an opportunity for those who love, care for, or work with children and families to send a message to our legislators about the importance of child care. Sitka’s families and businesses are struggling with child care affordability and availability, housing scarcity, and workforce development issues.
Improving access to quality child care, in particular, requires the efforts and resources of local, state, Tribal, and national government, large employers, and communities. Alaska and national studies have shown that the cost of child care is greater than families can afford. The federal government has a role to play in improving access to child care.
Please consider attending this meeting to provide Mr. Brown and Sen. Sullivan with information about how child care is impacting your children, your family, your work, your business, and our community.
Kari Sagel,
Early Childhood Coalition
