Community Hospital

Dear Editor: I want to thank the community of Sitka for its strong support of Sitka Community Hospital through the years, and now through a transition period to an integrated health system with SEARHC.

I am especially grateful to the Sitka Community Hospital employees who stayed on board until August 1. It has been a year of uncertainty and change, but our team at SCH kept providing quality care throughout. It has been an honor and a privilege to lead such a strong team of talented and caring individuals working hard to take care of our community. Our wonderful contract staff and partners at White’s Pharmacy have also been essential to ensuring the highest standard of care at Sitka Community Hospital.

So many people have stopped me over the last several months to express their gratitude for the amazing care they received. The thanks come from family, friends, and Sitkans from all walks of life.

I am excited to see the changes to Sitka’s health care system as our transitioning staff members bring the passion and expertise of Sitka Community Hospital to SEARHC. SCH staff will have a profoundly positive influence on care in Sitka as the best aspects of SCH and SEARHC become one.

Thank you again, Sitka.

Rob Allen, Past CEO

of Sitka Community Hospital

Funding Help

Dear Editor: The community of Sitka never ceases to amaze and inspire me. In mid-June, Brave Heart Volunteers rallied the troops to stuff letters and send out a mailing of nearly 800 letters to ask for donations in support of hiring a volunteer coordinator.

Every business day succeeding the distribution we have received at least one, if not more, small envelopes with incredibly generous donations enclosed. What we feel is an outpouring of support from the community for the work we do, thank you! We have officially begun the hiring process.

The Sitka Comprehensive Plan for 2030 projects the number of Sitkans age 65 and older will constitute 23% of the total population in 2030. “This would be almost a 60% increase in this age cohort compared to today.”  Your generosity is deeply appreciated and aids us in continuing to meet the growing needs of our services. Your support is greatly appreciated! In gratitude,

Maury Hackett, Director
