Letter Response

Dear Editor: This is a sincere, albeit belated, thank you for your July 20 posting of Mr. Scorzelli’s LTE comments regarding the recent declassification and disclosure of 28 pages from “The 9/11 Commission Report,” the “official version” conspiracy theory establishing, once and for all, “the Truth” about the terror event of Sept. 11, 2001 (LTE: “911 Commission Report”).

The release of those 28 pages highlights an undeniable fact; and thus raises, and establishes as urgent, a number of truly un-ignorable questions. The fact is that even the total number (let alone the individual and total contents) of the remaining – undisclosed to the American people – pages of the 9/11 Report is still, itself, “classified.” In other words, we, the American people, do not have a clue as to what else our government knows about 9/11 other than what it has already told us; at least until the lifting of the 28-page veil. But obviously, it knows a whole hell of a lot more than it has, up to this point, at least, been willing (or forced) to share with us.

The first question that becomes immediately emergent is: Why? Why – 15 years after 9/11, and 13 years after the publication of the 9/11 Report – are there still any secrets? Why do the American people not know at least as much about that day as those whom its government designated to “tell it like it wuz” know? Or at least dared to commit to writing what they claimed they had determined that they knew? The most obviously blatant example of this is the transcript of the commission’s conversation with Dick Cheney, while GW Bush watched dutifully on (if it even still exists; or even ever did).

A core, fundamental principle in the handling of classified information and documents is that access to that material is granted only to those with a “mission-essential need-to-know”; ie: “If you don’t know it and can still do your job, fuggeddabboudditt.” Is the answer to the first question, then, that the American people are doing their job, and have no need-to-know at all about all that their government knows about 9/11? About what actually, really happened that day: about how it really actually happened; about why it happened; and about who, by their acts and/or errors of commission and/or omission, made and/or enabled it happen? Or, as an alternative, is it simply that the answer to the question itself is, itself, “classified,” buried somewhere deep within all those uncounted classified pages?

A second question derives from Mr.  Scorzelli’s reference to a core “9/11 Truther’s” mantra: i.e.; that “9/11 was an inside job.” The question is this: if individuals and/or elements of agencies within the government of the United States (or allied governments) were involved in the planning, resourcing, execution and cover-up of 9/11, would you want to know? Would you really want to know? For those old enough to consider the question: Would you have wanted to know then, back in 2001, on our way into Afghanistan? Or in 2003, enroute to Iraq?

The final question cuts straight to the bone, and needs to be asked by Trumpatistas, Clintonistsas, and the growing silent plurality of none of the abovers: what don’t we, the American people, know about 9/11; and why don’t we need to know it?

As we approach 9/11-XV (to borrow a meme from the NFL), these are questions that we would all do well to ask ourselves and each other. And one more question: When 9/11 happens again, America, what will you do? What will you do? Because 9/11 will happen again. It will happen again when those who benefited most from its first iteration determine that they stand to gain even more by staging a second. Any who doubt this assertion should then ask themselves the following, and indeed most simplest question of all: who and or what is going to stop them?
