Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.
August 19
A bag of crystal material was found on Brady Street but it was found not to be illegal material.
A deer carcass was found hanging from a tree on Peter Simpson Road. A wildlife trooper was notified.
An iPhone with a leather flip case and ID was found at a downtown hotel.
A deceased raven was found on Lake Street.
At 1:08 p.m. a kidnapping was reported downtown. Nothing further was stated about the call.
At 3:39 p.m. a caller reported a bear in the 2800 block of SMC. It was not doing anything, the caller said.
A person was reported yelling for help throughout the day at a downtown location. Officers found nothing criminal was occurring, and advised those involved to keep the noise down.
At 6:25 p.m. a dog was reported hit by car at Hemlock and HPR. The owner picked up the remains.
At 6:32 p.m. a caller said a dog had been barking for a couple of days on Krestof Drive. The owner was contacted.
At 10:09 p.m. fireworks or gunshots were reported on Indian River Road and Naomi Kanosh Lane area. Officers could not locate a source.
At 11:05 p.m. officers gave a verbal warning about open containers to people at the skate park.
At 11:41 p.m. a disturbance was reported in the 1700 block of HPR. Officers found nothing criminal had occurred.
August 20
At 12:15 a.m. a caller said a dog appeared to have been tied up for two or three days in the 4100 block of HPR. Officers didn’t find such a dog.
At 12:52 a.m. a caller complained about noisy intoxicated people downtown. Officers did not find them.
At 1:50 a.m. a fight was reported outside a downtown bar. Officers did not find anything criminal.
At 2:30 a.m. a group was reported making noise in the 4700 block of HPR. Officers found nothing criminal.
At 4:11 a.m. a traffic cone was found in the middle of the road on the O’Connell Bridge. An officer removed it.
At 6 a.m. a bank burglary alarm went off. There was no burglary.
A wallet was found at a service station. The owner picked it up.
At 10:35 a.m. a vehicle door was reported to have hit another vehicle on Seward Street. Police contact is pending.
A barking dog was reported on Somer Drive. The owner was advised of the complaint.
At 12:09 p.m. a juvenile was reported hanging off the O’Connell Bridge. Officers spoke to an adult who was with the juvenile.
A caller complained about dogs barking often on Verstovia Street. Police left a card for the owners.
At 5 p.m. a caller complained about a couple arguing on Burkhart Street. Officers found nothing criminal occurred.
At 5:52 p.m. a Ring Island resident reported killing a bear. See story, page 1.
At 10:38 p.m. a man was reported heard yelling for help near Eliason Loop. An officer found two people who were lost on the trail, and helped them get down safely.
August 21
At 6:45 a.m. a bear sow and cub were seen on Naomi Kanosh Drive. They were not being aggressive.
At 10:18 a.m. a dog was reported tied to a front door at Lakeside for some time. Police found the dog was not in distress.
At 11:30 a.m. a child was reported riding an electric car on Lakeview Drive. Police found a parent was with the child.
A black Lab with a purple collar was taken to the animal shelter.
At 8:36 p.m. a man and woman were reported yelling at each other near Indian River Road. Police are investigating.
At 11:07 p.m. an officer opened an investigation into a report of a drug violation.
At 11:12 p.m. people at the skate park were advised it was past curfew.
Sitka Police
David Gross, 44, was charged with driving under the influence Sunday.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received four ambulance calls Friday, three on Saturday, and eight on Sunday.
At 1:29 p.m. and again at 9:28 p.m. Friday false alarm fire calls sounded at the same address on SMC.
