Fundraiser Thank You

Dear Editor: On behalf of the Sitka Cancer Survivor’s Society, we wish to give a BIG thanks to A/C Lakeside for the barbecue fundraiser they held for us Saturday, Aug. 13. Also a big thanks to Northern Sales, and the Coca-Cola Company, who helped make this all possible. We also were given the opportunity to offer a quilt raffle ticket for a lunch!

The weather cooperated and we had a good turnout. On the menu were: hamburgers, with the option of bacon, cheese, and all the fixings; hotdogs and delicious coleslaw; and a cold beverage. The food was delicious!

The SCSS board was on hand to help with quilt ticket sales, and some Sitka Emblem Club sisters helped and volunteered as well. Those helping were Bonnie Richards, Linda Janecek, Candi Barger, Pam Samuelson, Charlene Peterson, Robin McCrehin, Judi Blankenship and Carolyn Fredrickson.

Our biggest thanks are to Vince Winter, branch manager; Troy Wingard, grocery manager; Jill Servida; and Michael Frendez for their willingness to help us raise funds. They are great chefs, hard workers and a great team –  so easy to work with and help with all our questions.

This was a wonderful community service to our SCSS. Total funds raised was $1,442.90. Included in this amount was also some individual donations. We appreciate all who came and supported us. With these funds we are able to give mini-grants to those who are dealing with cancer here in Sitka.

Reminder: you still have time to purchase a quilt ticket. The drawing is Sunday, Sept. 18, at the Elks Lodge. Contact Bonnie Richards at 907-738-0692. Thanks, again!
