Home Health Closure

Dear Editor: As a prior Home Health patient recipient, I would like to voice my concerns regarding the closing of our Home Health facility here.

I have a huge concern about this decision. Last year I was homebound for months, and could not weight-bear, so was confined to a wheelchair.

The Home Health team of nurses, PT and OT professionals were a help that I can’t thank enough. Their professionalism was outstanding. I looked forward to their visits! They gave me encouragement, and hope. I had the care in the comfort of my home. I would have had to go to another facility outside of Sitka for my care. By their visits in our home, it made it cost-effective for me and my husband. It gave me greater independence, and confidence. The nurses caught health issues, that only those who are in the home could see, and report.

They closed the Home Health facility in Juneau, and found out it didn’t work. Let us not make that same mistake. They now have it coming back.

I understand there is lots of regulations regarding this decision, but praying these issues could be resolved. Asking for this to be relooked at and reconsidered. Concerned Sitkan,

Carolyn Fredrickson, Sitka
