Sitka Police Department received the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.
August 26
At 12:16 a.m. a caller reported she couldn’t get her car started and she was unable to get a taxi. An officer gave the car a jump-start.
At 12:24 a.m. a bear was reported on Dodge Circle, and at 12:39 a.m. an officer gave a resident a written warning about having trash out.
At 10:06 a.m. a bear call came in from Arrowhead Street.
At 11:45 a.m. a caller complained about barking dogs on Austin Street. The animal control officer was notified.
At 1:19 p.m. a caller asked for a welfare check on a relative who’d left to go fishing a week before and hadn’t been in contact. The caller was told the fishery was still open.
At 4:47 p.m. a man was reported yelling in an HPR trailer court. The man was found to be upset about a speeding driver. Police located the driver and issued a warning.
A driver in the 1700 block of HPR was given a verbal warning after making a U-turn.
At 7:33 p.m. a woman was reported to have fallen out of a kayak while taking a photo in Sitka Sound. She made it to a rock off the airport runway, where an officer on the emergency response vessel picked her up. The fire hall reported the vessel was out from 7:49 p.m. to 8:35 p.m., and no ambulance was needed.
At 10:09 p.m. a driver was reported to be locked out of a vessel on Alice Loop. A locksmith responded.
At 10:49 p.m. a Lance Drive caller complained a large truck stops in front of the residence and revs the engine. Officers were unable to find a truck matching the caller’s description.
At 11:55 p.m. a caller on Rudolph Walton Circle reported hearing what sounded like five shots from a .22. Officers were unable to find the source.
August 27
At 2:33 p.m. officers issued a bear nuisance warning in the 800 block of Lincoln Street.
