Visit to Sitka
Dear Editor: My name is Richard Barron. My wife and I just arrived home to Pasadena, Calif., from a fabulous cruise to Alaska. Before leaving for our cruise, we had mentioned several times how excited we were on account we’re going to visit the wonderful city of Sitka. There’s something special about Sitka we just don’t what it may be – the bears, the eagles, the trees, the weather, the stores, etc., etc., etc.? I believe one thing for sure that makes our visit to Sitka so pleasant, and that is the people for sure – beautiful!
Because we arrived earlier than our scheduled excursion tour time, my wife and I decided to take a walk along the beautiful walkway overlooking the marina towards the small marine museum. As we were walking, I heard this little quaint voice saying “Welcome To Sitka.” I immediately turned around and saw this little tiny woman holding hands with her husband and smiling. It was again this wonderful little lady who welcomed us last year at the same walkway. We stopped to chat with her and her husband about how nice it was to visit Sitka again. This little lady should be recognized as the “Queen of Sitka’s Welcoming Committee.’’ She and her husband were so pleasant to talk to, and they were always smiling welcoming us at the same time. It’s because of your friendly townspeople that we look forward visiting again next year and the years to follow. We hope to see this charming lady again, ‘‘The Queen of Sitka,” because she truly does represents your wonderful city.
