Police Blotter
Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
August 28
At 7:30 a.m. a caller said a woman in a white sedan passed a school bus while its lights were flashing.
Officers picked up a bike and groceries that were strewn about between the Hames Center and SMC, and took them to the owner’s home, where he was found resting peacefully.
A black Samsung S9+ was lost, perhaps on the ferry Columbia.
Police tagged abandoned vehicles, a boat and boat trailers on Eagle Beach and Granite Creek Road.
Police received domestic violence orders and denials to serve.
A key card and key on a blue lanyard was left in a taxi.
A wedding band was found at Baranof School.
A resident said someone backed into two contractors’ vehicles. Police investigated and filed a charge.
A resident asked to talk to an officer about a man harassing her.
Keys was found on Back Beach.
At 3 p.m. a caller complained someone was playing music too loudly and throwing debris off a roof onto his vehicle, causing damage. Police determined the intoxicated caller was the problem and the roofers were not doing anything wrong. Officers advised the caller to let the roofers do their work.
A person with a mental health issue agreed to go to the hospital.
At 4 p.m. a man was reported yelling profanities and throwing belongings around near the Thomsen Harbor restroom. Officers talked to the man, who had been talking with an imaginary captain. He was deemed able to care for himself and left on his own.
A man dropped off a syringe found in the Sealing Cove Harbor restrooms, and said more contraband might be in the toilet paper holder. Police found nothing else there, and disposed of the syringe.
Police gave a ride to a man who had cut himself at the ANB transient float.
A caller said he’d received a letter with a check for $2,660.67, from a company claiming to be Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency, with a message asking for the caller to acknowledge receiving of the check. The caller found the check to be suspicious.
Firefighters put out a small campfire that included a TV at the skate park at 6:44 p.m.
A black and green backpack with a Venture phone was found.
At 8:40 p.m. a man was heard yelling on the main float of Eliason Harbor. He told officers he’d had an argument with a skipper. He was advised to stay away for the evening.
A woman told police a man against whom she had taken out a domestic violence order was harassing her. She was advised of her options.
A caller told police he wanted something done about his neighbor’s porch light shining into his home, or he would shoot it out. Police determined the light didn’t appear brighter than any others in the area, nor was it pointed directly at the caller’s unit.
August 29
A woman who registered a .250 PBT was taken to the hospital.
At 1:10 a.m. a caller reported someone entered a home and left with suitcases. The caller said she’d been watching the activity on a security camera while the homeowner was away. Police made an arrest.
A hotline caller said a man was threatening to harm himself. Police checked on a man who said he hadn’t contacted anyone and the caller might have been someone who was mad at him and pretending to be him. He said he had no intention of harming himself.
At 4 a.m. a 911 caller said he was violently sick and unable to give his location, other than Thomsen Harbor. Police found him but he declined EMS.
Sitka Police
Patrick K. Moore, 56, was charged Wednesday with driving under the influence.
Aiden R. Peterson, 19, was arrested Wednesday on three warrants for failing to appear.
Joe A. Joseph, 26, was arrested Wednesday on a felony warrant out of Indiana for sexual assault.
Michael Eggers, 38, was arrested early today on a warrant for failing to comply with pretrial enforcement division requirements, and violating conditions of release.
In Court
Eileen M. Chambers, 74, was given a suspended imposition of sentence on one count of attempted unsworn falsification. She is to pay restitution and a $500 find. She will be on probation for a year, and not apply for a permanent fund dividend in the future. The other 13 counts against her related to the permanent fund dividend application were dismissed.
Michael E. Chambers, 72, was given a suspended imposition of sentence on a charge of attempted unsworn falsification. He is to pay restituion and will be on probation for a year. He is to pay a $500 fine and is not to apply for a permanent fund dividend in the future. The other six counts related to a PFD application were dismissed.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 5:53 p.m. Wednesday; and 12:27, 4:50 and 10:36 a.m. today.
At 6:40 p.m. Wednesday a fire truck was sent to the skate park to put out a small campfire.
