Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.
August 3
At 4:56 a.m. an ongoing dispute over belongings in a trailer was reported.
At 7:41 a.m. a person was reported asleep in the 300 block of Lincoln Street. Police did not find the person.
At 9:57 a.m. a barnacle device was attached to the windshield of a vehicle illegally parked in the 100 block of Lincoln Street. The barnacle was removed at 4 p.m., and the driver was given a $25 parking fine and a $100 charge for the barnacle’s removal.
A caller asked for a welfare check on an employee who hadn’t been heard from in a couple of days. Officers talked to the employee, who was fine and didn’t want to be contacted further by the employer.
The Radiance of the Seas cruise ship reported confiscating THC gummies and e-cigarettes from someone on the ship.
At 11:14 a.m. a man was reported yelling in what sounded like a foreign language in a parking lot at the national park. A ranger investigated and found all was fine.
At 11:58 a.m. a caller asked for a welfare check on a downtown resident. Police found the person was not at home but was fine.
At 1:15 p.m. a caller reported seeing a man who had a gun and a dog off leash go into city hall. An officer found the man was paying a bill, and the dog had been given a treat.
At 1:38 p.m. a dog was reported running at large in the Lakeside parking lot. A police dispatcher recognized the dog and contacted the owner.
At 1:39 p.m. a property owner on Eagle Way said two juveniles were seen on a security camera trespassing. Officers talked to the kids’ parents.
A man talked to an officer in the police station lobby about work not being done. He was advised of his options.
At 2:47 p.m. a bicycle rider said she’d almost been hit by a car in the round-about. Officers left a message for the driver.
At 5:31 p.m. a woman said she’d been in a local store when she was approached by someone from out of town and made to feel uncomfortable.
At 7:05 p.m. a caller said one dog had attacked another on Baranof Street. One of the dogs was to be taken to a veterinary.
At 7:38 p.m. a caller said a bear was getting into trash on Islander Drive, and neighbors had been warned.
At 8:50 p.m. three juveniles were reported fighting at Pioneer Park.
At 10:15 p.m. a woman said her boyfriend had taken her car keys. Police were told she wasn’t in a condition to drive.
August 4
At 1:13 a.m. police were told there was going to be a fight in the parking lot in the100 block of Harbor Drive. Officers found no signs of a fight.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received six ambulance calls.
Coast Guard
A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Sitka on Wednesday evening medevacked a man from Angoon to Sitka for medical care.
The Coast Guard was asked to pick up the 75-year-old patient with COVID who was having trouble breathing. No times were available on the call, but he was taken to Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center for care, the Coast Guard said.
