August 5, 2022, Police Blotter

Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

August 4

At 1:13 a.m. police were told there was going to be a fight in the parking lot in the100 block of Harbor Drive. Officers found no signs of a fight.

A caller reported finding a dog print near his tent on the Gavan Hill trail head.

At 7:54 a.m. Dove Island residents reported multiple sightings of a bear. Police notified Fish and Game and troopers.

A caller asked about the process of getting a welfare check.

A caller on Lake Street said a neighbor was feeding birds on top of trash cans, resulting in litter. The property owner was notified.

A caller asked for a welfare check on a friend who was behaving erratically.

At 11:36 a.m. a resident in the 2200 block of SMC said the family wasn’t able to leave home because of a persistent bear that was hanging around the area. A wildlife biologist and police scared the bear away, so the family could leave the house.

 

At 1:27 p.m. a caller in the 2800 block of SMC said a bear had been in the yard. The caller’s dog had chased the bear off, and had returned with a mark indicating the bear had swatted it. Police notified Fish and Game and troopers.

At 5:05 p.m. a caller said someone was shooting off fireworks at ANB Harbor, and his boat was nearly hit. An officer was to do followup on the call.

Police assisted the adult probation order in case.

At 5:40 p.m. the manager of apartments said a resident was acting erratically. After police arrived the resident agreed to leave.

At 7 p.m. a dog was reported running at large near Sitka High. Officers were advised.

At 7:19 p.m. a caller said a resident in the 3900 block of HPR was putting out garbage too early. Officers were advised.

At 10:33 p.m. a little dog was reported running at large at the ANB Harbor parking lot. Police located the owner, who retrieved it.

August 5

At 3 a.m. two men at the Crescent Harbor shelter were reported yelling and playing loud music. Officers told them to be quieter. A couple of hours later another noise complaint came in, and officers again told them to be quieter.

 

Sitka Police

Aleksei Wilson, 36, was charged Thursday with driving under the influence.

Donald Garrity, 57, was charged early today with driving under the influence.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received seven ambulance calls Thursday.
