Police Blotter
Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
August 6
A resident turned in a handgun he found six feet below the high tide mark at Nakwasina Sound. He said it took him several days of cleaning to read the serial number. Police were unable to determine the owner through an internet search.
Binoculars found in a laundromat were turned in.
Lifejackets were found in Swan Lake.
At 12:24 p.m. a man was reported walking with a child who was playing close to the white line in the 1000 block of SMC.
A man was reported at Eliason Harbor despite a trespass order.
A domestic violence order was given to police to serve.
A caller said her husband fell for a scam, and emptied his and his wife’s bank accounts. The ones who took the money bought cards at a grocery store to send to people. The caller was referred to ic3.gov.
Officers gave a ride home to a man needing help at a church.
At 4:22 p.m. a man was reported lying on stairs on Katlian Street. He was intoxicated but able to care for himself, police found.
A caller said she was using an app to find an address while driving, got confused and pulled into a Smith Street parking lot to check the app better. While parked, a woman pulled up behind her, yelled at her for texting and driving, and wouldn’t listen to the caller’s explanation that she wasn’t texting. The caller said she was concerned at how angry the woman was.
A caller left a message from Juneau about conducting a welfare check on his daughter. Police called back and left a message.
At 5:30 p.m. a woman reported a man was taking photos of her kids at Eagle Beach. Police talked to the man, who said he was taking photos but not of the kids. The woman was gone when officers arrived.
Officers determined a man reported passed out on an Eliason Harbor bench at 6:10 p.m. was able to care for himself. He was told to stay off the docks until sober.
Two men reported arguing at Pioneer Park at 9 p.m. stopped arguing when officers arrived, and agreed to keep it down.
Officers filled the food and water bowls of a dog on Charteris Street that had been barking and appeared to have been left alone.
August 7
A 911 caller on Erler Street said he believed some people were watching his home and planned to steal things again when he was gone. Officers were advised.
At 12:51 a.m. two men who had been reported fighting earlier at a bar were now just arguing, a caller said. One of the men told officers he had been “sucker-punched” but didn’t wish to press charges. The other man said he hadn’t been hit. They agreed to separate.
People arguing loudly in the 2300 block of HPR were quiet when police arrived.
A man and woman were reported in the Kimsham parking lot at 1:20 a.m. Officers advised them of park hours and asked to find a more appropriate location for their activities.
A gunshot was reported at 2:23 a.m. in the 2800 block of HPR. No other reports were received.
At 4:55 a.m. a man was reported sleeping in the canoe at Centennial Hall. He told police he had had a bad fishing season and was currently homeless. He was advised of his options and told he couldn’t sleep there.
Sitka Police
Timothy J. Erickson, 29, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of misconduct involving a controlled substance for alleged possession of meth.
Emergency Calls
On Tuesday, Sitka Fire Department dispatched an ambulance at 8:29 p.m., and responded to an EMS call at Starrigavan.
