August 9, 2021, Police Blotter

Sitka Police Department received the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

August 6

An animal call was logged at 12:15 a.m. on Merrill Street.

A bear was reported on Merrill Street at 1:03 a.m.

Disorderly conduct was reported at 6:06 a.m. at the Coast Guard air station.

A bear was reported at totem park at 6:39 a.m.

Suspicious activity was reported on Andrew P. Hope Street at 8:27 a.m.

At 9:26 a.m. a traffic complaint was filed from the ferry terminal.

At 10 a.m. citizen contact was made at the shooting range.

At 10:42 a.m. broken glass, cigarette butts and strewn garbage were reported at Baranof school playground.

At 1:28 p.m. a driver reported nearly hitting a dog running at large in the 1700 block of HPR. It had run off toward Davidoff Street, and the animal control officer didn’t find it.

At 3 p.m. a retired medical person reported a man had suffered a flesh wound to the leg after a gun had gone off by accident at Port Armstrong.

At 6:19 p.m. a traffic accident with injury was reported in the 2800 block of HPR. The injuries were minor and an ambulance declined. The two vehicles were towed.

At 8:10 p.m. a hit and run was reported at the Sawmill Creek Plaza.

A man was reported walking and screaming near the trooper academy at 11 p.m. Police found nothing criminal.

August 7

Reports of bears came in at 2:44 a.m., 3 a.m. and 3:15 a.m. from Anna Circle; at 3:21 a.m. from 1815 SMC; at 3:38 a.m. from Jamestown Drive; 3:45 a.m. from 1715 SMC; and at 3:56 a.m. from Wolff Drive.

At 8:56 a.m. a man reported his vehicle had been stolen from the 200 block of Baranof Street. The vehicle was found about 10:30 a.m. on Back Beach. The man declined to press charges.

At 9:17 a.m. a man was reported yelling and agitated on Oceanview Street. Police found nothing criminal.

Reports of a bear came in at 9:41 a.m. from Mills Street and at 9:43 a.m. from Pherson Street.

Two welfare checks were requested on Katlian Street.

At 5 p.m.  kids on Harbor Mountain Road were reported to have shot a vehicle being driven on HPR. Officers took the kids to the police station, where the parents were to pick them up.

Items were reported missing from a boat at Eliason Harbor.

At 9:13 p.m. a bear was reported on Lifesaver Drive.

August 8

Trespassing was reported on Biorka Street.

At 2:33 p.m. a bear was reported on Rudolph Walton Circle.

At 3:55 p.m. a person in a parked vehicle was reported shooting a pellet gun on Moller ball field. Police found nothing criminal.

At 10:50 p.m. a bear was reported on Seward Avenue.

At 11:29 p.m. and 11:51 p.m. bear calls came in from Lance Drive.

August 9

At 12:33 a.m. a bear was reported on Wolff Drive, and at 3:33 a.m. one was reported on Lifesaver Drive.

At 6:03 a.m. a caller reported missing dogs in the 700 block of SMC. They returned about a half-hour later.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received six ambulance calls Friday, two on Saturday and five on Sunday.

At 6:22 p.m. emergency vehicles responded to a report of a traffic accident with injury in the 2800 block of HPR but an ambulance was declined.
