Awesome Fundraiser

Posted

Dear Editor: On behalf of the Sitka Cancer Survivor’s Society Board of Directors, we wish to give a “HUGE THANK YOU” to all who attended, contributed and donated to our recent Fundraiser.

A spaghetti dinner and a live auction including desserts was held on Sunday, Oct. 5. The event was held at the Sitka Elks Lodge 1662, sponsored by the Sitka Emblem Club 142. We got our “Pink On,” and decorated the lodge to follow the theme. The event was a huge success! One of our best ever! We also want to thank the Sitka Sentinel for all the good press they gave to us for this event. Also KIFW, AJ for the interview on Problem Corner, and publicity on Raven Radio.

The delicious spaghetti, salad and bread dinner was prepared and served by our Sitka Emblem Club 142. Judi Blankenship, the hard-working chair and her awesome crew provided us all with the yummy meal. President Mindy Lowrance has chosen our SCSS for her president project again for the second year. Without the amazing support of Sitka Emblem Club 142, we would not be able to have our raffle, our auction, or our fundraisers! Big kudos to all Emblem Club ladies and officers!

The auction items were absolutely unbelievable and the desserts donated were one of a kind. Auctioneer Beau Hedrick was excellent, wonderful, and kept things lively and so much fun. Beau had great helpers who volunteered to help him, they were Athena Winter and Wyatt Crosiar. We appreciated their wonderful help. In spite of other events going on that Sunday as well, the lodge was full, the items donated were all wanted and bid on! Opportunities were also given to buy last minute raffle tickets.

There were so many generous donors and helpers who made this event such a success. Everyone we asked just jumped in and said “yes” for sure we will donate!

Our Sitka business owners are always ready and willing to help. We certainly would never leave anyone out. A gratitude of thanks to all who came and supported us. We truly appreciate you all.

We drew the three Raffle prize winners the next day, on Monday, Oct. 6, at the Lodge. The three prizes included the beautiful “Fall Frolic’’ quilt, designed and made by the Ocean Wave Quilters. The quilt was won by Stan Filler. The copper Tinnaa earrings donated by Charlie Skultka was won by Patricia Atkinson. The $250 cash donated by Tongass Credit Union was won by Jessie Natkong. All were elated and so happy to be drawn! Another opportunity to win will be again next year. We thank all who purchased our raffle tickets and supported our raffle!

Our mission is to honor, educate, comfort and inspire individuals and families affected by cancer. With these raised funds we are able to continue to help people in Sitka and their families who are dealing with cancer, giving mini grants and support. Come enjoy the Path of Hope Park, located next to Lower Moller Field, and check out our beautiful website www.sitkacancersurvivorssociety.org, created by our own Webmaster, Hannah Portello-Swagel.

Thanks for blessing us and so many others.
