Dear Editor: On Dec. 2, Roxann Gagner’s fifth-grade class at Kéet Gooshí Héen Elementary hosted a bake sale. The purpose of the event was to raise funds to purchase gifts for the Giving Tree located in the Wells Fargo Bank lobby.
Students and families generously contributed baked goods – including cookies, muffins, cupcakes, fry bread, and more – which were sold during the grade level lunches. By the end of the sale, the class had raised over $900. Shortly thereafter, students traveled by bus to downtown Sitka, where they purchased gifts for more than 20 children.
Mrs. Gagner’s class extends heartfelt gratitude to Kirstin Karsunky for her leadership in making this project possible, as well as to the many parents who baked items and volunteered during the sale and downtown field trip. Additional thanks goes out to the students for purchasing the baked goods. This combined effort reflects the spirit of generosity and community that makes Sitka such a special place.
