Sitka High Wolves and Mt. Edgecumbe High Braves boys basketball teams will tip off tonight at 7 p.m. in the Sitka gym for the second time this season.
The second of three installments in the Wolves (5-13), from Baranof Island, and the Braves (5-10), from Japonski Island, “Battle of the Bridge” series should see both teams at full strength coming off of productive road tournaments last weekend.
The Wolves went 1-2 at the Winter Carnival in Homer. They lost to 3A Seward 63-51 and 2A Galena 57-47, and beat 3A Homer 44-35. Wolves’ senior CJ Taccad and junior Gavin Flores were selected to the all-tournament team.

The Braves went 1-2 at the Kotzebue Klassic. They lost to 3A Kotzebue 62-58, beat 2A Noatak 71-49, and lost to 2A Unalakleet 79-71. Braves’ senior Emmett Dunaway was selected to the all-tournament team.
In the first bridge battle last week, Mt. Edgecumbe took their second lead of the game – the first was at 5-4 – in the final minute of play and hold on for a 55-49 win.
The Sitka Wolves’ and Lady Wolves’ home games against the Petersburg Vikings and Lady Vikings on Wednesday in the SHS Gym have been canceled due to the Alaska Marine Highway System’s M/V Aurora undergoing repairs.
The Mt. Edgecumbe Braves will host Ketchikan on Friday and Saturday at B.J. McGillis Gymnasium and the Lady Braves will travel to the Grace Christian Lady Grizzly Hardwood Classic Tournament.
Mt. Edgecumbe will also host a JV and C team tournament beginning Thursday at B.J. McGillis featuring the feeder programs from Ketchikan, Petersburg, Mt. Edgecumbe and Sitka.
