Dear Editor: Friends of Sitka Animal Shelter would like to thank everyone who came out to participate in, cheer on, and support Best in Show Sitka! We had so much fun seeing Sitka’s pups in the spotlight, and we hope everyone who attended had just as much fun.
A huge thank you to our amazing photographers, Bobbi Jordan and Melanie Widmier, for volunteering their time to capture so many special moments throughout the event!
And to our incredible judges – Janet Clarke, Dusty Kidd, and Sitka Police Chief Mike Hall – thank you for selecting the winner in each category, which was arguably the most challenging job of all!
All participating pups received a ribbon and plenty of cheering, but we want to give a special shoutout to the category winners: Smallest – Isabella, 1.5-year-old Dachshund; Largest – Walter, 12-year-old Great Dane; Best Costume – Steel, 8-year-old Silver Labrador Retriever; Waggiest Tail – Cooper, 6-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel; Floppiest Ears – Marty, 6-month-old Mini Dachshund; Owner/Pet Look-Alikes – April Wheldon and Camber, 6-year-old Yellow Labrador Retriever; Fluffiest – Sophia, 8-year-old Malamute (Sitka Animal Shelter alumni!); Best Tricks – Elaine Benes, 1-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
Congratulations to all of our winners, and to every pup who came out to participate!
Thank you also to the Donut Shack for donating donuts for our contestants to enjoy before the big show.
We’re also so grateful to all of the volunteers who helped hand out ribbons, bake dog biscuits, put together prize baskets, and keep both the dogs and their people organized and wrangled throughout the event. We couldn’t have done it without you!
A special thank you to Animal Control Officer April Wheldon for emceeing the event with us and bringing her positive, fun energy to the afternoon.
And finally, a big shoutout to Tyler Eddy and Harry’s Custom Services for creating our amazing Best in Show banner!
We are so grateful to everyone who helped make Best in Show Sitka such a success. We’re already looking forward to doing it again next year! Thank you,
