ear Editor: A recent National Campaign for Justice email alerted me to Amazon, Google and Microsoft’s technology fueling the genocide in Gaza. This is absolutely appalling!
Google Photos being used for its facial recognition prowess to target Palestinians in Gaza, ”Project Nimbus” (a joint Google/Amazon AI project) being used by Israel’s Ministry of Defense to perpetrate human rights violations, Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform used to collect and store millions of cellphone communications in and out of Gaza and the West Bank, and Netahyahu’s office making a $45 million deal with Google to distribute propaganda on YouTube and other platforms.
Microsoft has begun to rein in the Azure cloud and cut off AI, but it’s still offering other services to the Israeli government. Employees at these companies who speak up have lost their jobs at both Google and Microsoft.
It’s time for us to exert pressure on these big tech firms. Use this link to send letters to their CEOs and ask that they cancel contracts with Israel’s government (https://actionnetwork.org/letters/big-tech-cancel-contracts-with-idf/?source=group-ju). Consider switching to alternate email and office suite providers like ProtonMail, iCloud Mail, Mail bird, Thunderbird and many more (just search using Firefox or Duck Duck Go).
Let’s lift our voices and push back on the genocide in Gaza.
